DRB LasGidi

DRB LasGidi (previously known as "Marit") was formed in 2007 by Teniola Zaccheaus, Tobenna Ofili, and Ladi Lanre. These boys had a common goal, to achieve success by creating good music. Tobi Ajayi also became a vital member of this group. He not only went to the same school with them, he also lived in the same house as Tobenna and Ladi. Rap Royals officially kicked off with these 4 boys rapping and singing. They recorded over 5 tracks a day, made various freestyles to other known instrumentals and started to get a 'buzz' within their circle. Tobenna would do every hook with Tobi, Ladi, and Teni rapping. Later on, Ladi became known as FreshL, Teni as TZ (TeeZee) and Tobi as Tobias. "Coronation Vol.1" was released, and was packaged well with help from a close friend who designed the cover for these cd's. Although it sold, not too much was generated. Dayo Ogundare, Bolaji Odojukan and a few others made appearances on this mixtape. Next up, "Marry You" was released via emails. This was arguably their best project so far, and their first afro-beat track as a group. Bolaji and Tobenna made the beat and laid down verses, while FreshL rapped on it as usual. The boys didn't realize this song was going to take them to a different level and increase their fan base in Nigeria. It started playing at numerous parties, eventually making it onto a Lagos radio station. This was the first time any of the group's music was heard outside their circle of friends.
Bolaji then joined the group as he was also in Malvern College with the team. Initially, he rapped on a few tracks, then left his unique vocals for a moment after 'Marry You' was recorded. Along the way, still working on tracks, the group started working with Ife Otedola who was a producer at the time and had a studio. Time was not wasted before collaborations were made. "Wait A Minute" was another track which got a lot of positive reviews with J.Rah, a fellow rapper, jumping in on it and showing his skills. Originally a solo artist, he was now affiliated with Rap Royals. Concrete Rose was the first show they performed at and the response was pleasing. This encouraged them and made them realise they truly wanted to do this. An expansion was due at this point, as well as, a name change. After days of brainstorming, DRB (Double R "Rap Royals" Boys) was created. The group now involves new members like 3feat, Yung Didz and IC. Gidilounge interviewed DRB and their video went viral along with their hot "She Likes To" freestyle, in which other non-DRB rappers were a part of. As they kept making tracks and recording net videos, they had solid projects from 2008-2010 which will stay in the minds of their fans.
In 2008, the "Beats N Bars" mixtape was made by FreshL and Tobenna with an appearance from 3feat. In 2009, "Hooks N Bars" mixtape was made and in 2010 "HarDrive" Mixtape was made and featured JRah, Costels, Phlowz, Stan and Davido, with production from Adey. "Bad Man Jump" was DRB's single of that year and in the summer, the track took off with over 10,000 downloads. From this point on, more artists decideed to collaborate and gain stage experience. This was one of Adey's best works so far.
In 2011, as the team expanded, a decision was made to include Phlowz, Stan, Woodsy and Uzee. All now known as TeamDRB. Later that year, the team was divided into Afro-beats vs Uk. TZ, FreshL and Boj were now DRBLasGidi (Afro-beats) while the rest were now Creative Elevation (CE) with Phlowz and Tobenna being the founders. Collectively, the movement is known as CEDRB, with their close friends Joey, Jerry, Ik, Ausboss and KC moving in with the group.
DRB Lasgidi was now a fresh movement that focused on the African market. The boys realized they had to get a manager who can help them manage things in Nigeria, as they were all still schooling in the U.K. Tenny Karim known as TK was involved with this project and started working with Boj, FreshL and TZ. Being older, he had direct connections in the industry. This really boosted them as a brand and allowed their music to travel beyond Nigeria. The team decided he should drop something first so Boj found his 2008 vocals and decided to quickly polish and master it. "Gra Gra" freestyle was released and this gave him that stamp and recognition as a talented singer. FreshL was up next with "Bring Out The Rose" dropping in October, featuring TeeZee and produced by Adey. This was a "banger" according to DJ's and was quickly played in clubs and various radio stations. TeeZee released his own track, "Swagga Mi Gbono" featuring Boj, produced by K-Logic. This was also a club hit and got radio play. Old fans were excited about this new force, and DRB Lasgidi generated a lot more supporters between July and December, 2011. In Christmas of that year, Boj and TeeZee made a trip to Lagos, and FreshL stayed in London to work on some music, hoping to gain inspiration. People became instantly interested in the team after attending the shows.
2012, LXIX was made and released 3 days before DRBs first single "Toyin", which was produced by DJ Caise. This track was a hit and with about 25,000 downloads in the first month and over 20,000 plays on blogs. FJ Ayodeji joined with DRBLasgidi as their assistant manager and handled the finance from tours and bookings, Papi YT became creative director and Ola (Bado) gave inspiration on the fashion side of things, as well as, being a major advisor to the team. He and his team, MV (Jimmy & Anthony), are closely affiliated to DRB. Wunmi Bakare is DRB's PR Rep. with a lot of experience and she has been able to help the group tremendously. She also works for one of Nigeria's biggest female artist, Tiwa Savage. The Toyin video was released during the summer of 2012 with DRB's 2nd single due to be released. Ultra famous they became.
